Land of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, is a classic arcade platform side-scrolling, initially released for the Sega Master System in 1992 and ported a year later to the Game Gear. The game is the sequel to the Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, a Sega Megadrive/Genesis title

Review
Land of Illusion Starring Mickey MouseMuch like its predecessor, the game is a typical 8-way side-scrolling arcade platform, divided into 14 stages. Your goal is to collect and deliver the crystal to the visited villages. Your quest is not easy though, as nasties (such as snakes, spiders etc) are scattered around its stage which are willing to decrease your precious health. Fortunately Mickey can defend himself by picking up items (say, rocks) and throwing them to his enemies. He can also jump at them (much like Mario) in a sitting pose in order to kill too. Moreover, Mickey can gain some new abilities, such as a rope for climbing up walls, when colleting certain items scattered at its stage. He can easily restore health too, by any picking power stars found along his way.
A really interesting aspect of the gameplay is that, Mickey can go back through a previous stage and collect items left behind in order to gain abilities or health.
Ok, this is a typical though action platform game, but Mickey figure is always a pleasant character to play with.

Graphics are way too cute here. Game Gear was always a surprising hardware to play due to its good -for the time- capabilities. The game is offering some nice cartoonish backgrounds and sprites, much like the favorite animated films. Sprites move pretty smooth and scrolling is fast too. Mickey offers some nice funny moves whilst the enemy sprites are beautifully animated. Mickey can move in all 8 directions on screen, jumping form one platform to another etc. Backdrops vary depending to the stage i.e. the first stage (forest) is full of trees, pits, rocks etc. Note that it is a direct port from the original Sega Master System version, so the more capable (out of 4096) color palette of the Game Gear is not utilized here.
As far as the sound, the game follows the story and the funny feeling of the cartoons, offering some cute in-game tunes along with a few funny SFX.
